The tragedy of George Baldock’s death cast a long shadow over Greece’s visit to Wembley in the UEFA Nations League. Buckingham-born Baldock played almost all of his career in England before moving to Greece to join Panathinaikos in May.
He had by then played the entirety of a brief international career for Greece. After beating England for the first time courtesy of their first and second goals at Wembley, Baldock’s former team-mates revealed that they had expressed their view that the match shouldn’t be played.
